For more than 100 years, the Denver Dry Goods company sold products to the people of Denver, from a four-story building right off of the 16th Street Mall that is now home to condos, apartments, offices, and retail stores. Many longtime residents of Denver remember the Denver Dry fondly for its 800-seat tea room, which was then converted into a 4,500-square-foot condo, complete with vaulted ceilings, a wraparound deck, and painted frescoes.

The transformation of the building into a successful condo development is nothing short of miraculous! The building fell on hard times back in 1987, when May D&F bought the Denver Cry Goods chain and closed the downtown store so that it wouldn’t compete with an existing May company store. After a full year of vacancy, the Denver Urban Renewal Authority stepped in and purchased the historic building, saving it from potential destruction. Over the years, many attempts to redevelop the Denver Dry failed, but today it’s home to 66 condos / lofts, and is on the National Register of Historic places in Denver.

One of the main drawbacks to the Denver Dry Lofts is the lack of parking, but thanks to the location, you may not even need a car! The 16th Street Mall free shuttle is just outside the door, light rail is nearby, and all the downtown Denver attractions are also near (Denver Pavilion, Tabor Center, Larimer Square, Coors Field, Pepsi Center, DCPA, museums, restaurants, bars, and more).
