In 1905, Neusteters opened a department store on 16th Street in downtown Denver and became part of what was then a thriving shopping district. So much so, in fact that the three-story building was replaced by a five-story building that today houses the Neusteters condos. The Neusteters upscale department store thrived for many decades, a pillar of the downtown Denver district, until 1985, in fact, when it closed its door, the victim of changing shopping habits as people opted for suburban malls. In the 1990s, the historic Neusteters building on what is now the 16th Street Mall was then converted into condos.

Designed in a reserved Chicago Commercial style, Neusteters condos is one of the most distinctive and historic buildings on the 16th Street Mall today, with retail on the ground floor and four stories of condos above. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places in Denver.
